Sharing Plans
DiveToolbox lets you share your dive plans with dive buddies, instructors, or anyone else, even if they do not have a DiveToolbox account. You can generate a shareable link or a QR code that opens a read-only view of your plan.
Accessing the share feature
Click the Share / Export button in the dive planner toolbar. This opens a modal with three tabs: Export, Share, and QR Code. The Export tab is covered in Export & Print.
Share tab
The Share tab lets you generate a unique URL for your dive plan.
Generating a link
- Click Generate share link to create a unique URL for your plan.
- The link is automatically copied to your clipboard.
- Share the link using one of two methods:
- Copy to clipboard: click the copy button to copy the link again at any time.
- Native share: on supported devices, this opens the system share sheet with a pre-filled message: "Here is my dive plan generated on DiveToolbox". You can then send the link via any app on your device (messaging, email, etc.).
The generated link follows the format:
https://divetoolbox.com/shared/<token>
Anyone with this link can view the plan; no account is required. For details on what the recipient sees, refer to Opening a Shared Plan.
If the recipient has a DiveToolbox account and is logged in, they will be automatically redirected to the dive planner with the plan loaded, allowing them to modify and recalculate it.
QR Code tab
The QR Code tab generates a scannable code that encodes the share link.
This is useful when sharing in person: your buddy can scan the code with their phone camera to open the plan directly in their browser.
Native share on mobile
On devices that support the Web Share API (most smartphones and tablets), the native share option opens the system share sheet.
What is included in the shared plan
The shared link gives the recipient access to all of the plan's data:
- All dive parameters and environment settings
- Tank configurations and gas mixes
- Full decompression schedule
- Gas consumption details
- Safety metrics (PPO2, CNS, OTU, END, gas density)
The shared plan is a snapshot of your plan at the time of sharing. If you make changes to the plan afterward, you will need to generate a new share link to get an updated version.
